ChatGPT Outage Reports Surge as Users Face Issues

ChatGPT users experienced access problems Thursday, with outage reports rising sharply over the course of the morning.

More than 5,000 users had reported issues by 7:53 a.m. PT. The number continued to climb, reaching more than 22,000 by 8:03 a.m. and more than 43,000 six minutes later.

OpenAI's status page initially indicated that it was not aware of any problems. It later said the company was investigating issues affecting ChatGPT and Codex.

Reports continued to increase throughout the morning. More than 52,000 users had reported problems by 8:14 a.m., followed by more than 66,000 at 8:18 a.m. By 8:23 a.m., the total had surpassed 74,000 reports.

The disruption also drew attention from Google users, with searches for "Is Chat GPT down?" trending as people looked for information about the service.

A separate update later cited more than 12,000 outage reports shortly before 11 a.m., with about 85% of reported problems involving ChatGPT.

There was no stated timetable for a full resolution. The reported problems began around 10:30 a.m. in the later update, leaving the duration of the disruption unclear.
