LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian is now streaming on Disney+, offering a comedic LEGO-style retelling of the first three seasons of The Mandalorian rather than continuing the story with a new adventure.
According to StarWars.com, the animated special brings together major moments and characters from across the live-action series. Several original performers returned to voice their characters, including Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon, Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand, Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto, Bill Burr as Migs Mayfeld, Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano and Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett.
Other roles were recast for the LEGO production. Gavin Hammon voices Din Djarin in place of Pedro Pascal, while Eric Bauza takes over the voice of Luke Skywalker from Mark Hamill. Flula Borg voices The Client, previously played by Werner Herzog.
The special also features Carl Lumbly as Greef Karga, a character originally portrayed by the late Carl Weathers.
Cara Dune Is Missing
One notable absence is Cara Dune, the former Rebel shock trooper who was a major supporting character during the first two seasons of The Mandalorian. Gina Carano, who played Dune, was dismissed by Lucasfilm in 2021 following controversial social media posts.
Unlike several other characters whose original performers were unavailable or not returning, Cara Dune was not recast for the LEGO special. The character also does not appear among the production's promoted cast.
The live-action series subsequently addressed Dune's absence by establishing that she had been recruited for a new assignment. That allowed the show to move forward without replacing the character.
A 45-Minute Retelling
Rather than adding a new chapter to Din and Grogu's story, the LEGO special compresses the events of the three-season series into roughly 45 minutes. Its approach is intentionally comedic, using LEGO-style visual gags and exaggerated versions of familiar scenes.
The production also draws on material connected to The Book of Boba Fett, while focusing primarily on Din Djarin and Grogu's journey.
The decision to recast some characters while retaining other original performers gives the special a mixed voice cast. For viewers familiar with the live-action series, the returning actors provide recognizable performances, while the recast roles offer a different interpretation of the characters.
The special arrives as The Mandalorian franchise continues its move beyond television. The Mandalorian & Grogu is also available on Disney+, alongside the original three seasons of The Mandalorian.
For longtime fans, the LEGO production works mainly as a lighthearted recap rather than a major new entry in the Star Wars story. Its biggest draw is seeing familiar events and characters re-created through LEGO's comedic style.
